7 Steps to improving your bathroom
Is your bathroom looking a little worse for wear? Was the deep clean and new coat of paint not enough to bring your bathroom back to life?
Sounds like it’s time to show your showering space a little love with a simple yet sophisticated makeover!
Beautifying your bathroom doesn’t need to cost an arm and a leg. You also don’t need to overthink it, so to get your restroom and bathing area looking lush, here are 7 simple ways to do it. Trust me on this, I’ve done it myself and it works.
Create a feature wall
Tiles
Achieve an expensive-looking custom-design feature wall for a fraction of the price! Instead of using glass mosaic tiles, try incorporating a thin band of feature tiles in amongst field tiles. You can even lace these through your field tiles all the way from ceiling to floor for consistency.
Paint
Be bold! Be brave! As bathroom walls easily succumb to fading due to humidity, there’s no reason why a bright colour can’t be incorporated into your bathroom rejuvenation to counteract this common frustration.
If you’re motivated to do so, create a two-tone look by measuring and marking to the desired height, use painter’s tape on the measurement line for accuracy, and proceed to paint the lower portion with vibrant new colour.
Focus on floors
Love the idea of brightening your bathroom with a fresh set of tiles, but can’t commit to the cost? Try vinyl tiles instead!
With a huge range of aesthetics available, you can be sure there is a style to match your desired new look. They’re also just as easy to waterproof as regular bathroom tiles, so you can rest easy knowing your foundations won’t suffer on account of a cheaper tile option.
The best part about vinyl tiles is they’re so easy to apply that you can DIY. Just make sure your subflooring is completely smooth before you begin, so any cracks, bumps or marks from the old tiles don’t show through.
Add a new shower curtain
Pretty basic stuff here, but not one to overlook. Invest in a new shower curtain for an instant refresh! Choose something neutral to make your room seem more spacious or select a shade that stands out.
Beyond colour palettes, you could even get creative with the fabric and design of your curtain. Why not match it with the curtains in your living room, guest room or office? Just remember to back it with a plastic shower curtain and you’re good to go!
Update bathroom glass
Remove any outdated or damaged glass from your bathroom. If it is fixable, approach with an eco-friendly mindset and have the offending piece or panel repaired where possible.
Alternatively, create that ooh-la-la effect in your bathroom with a bevelled shower screen or a dramatic round mirror. Yass. It’s real glam.
Add some plants
Love a relaxing bath? Create a sense of serenity in your bathroom with some indoor plants to really lift your space to a whole new level.
Remember, decorative plants don’t need to be watered every day if you choose wisely. Pick plants that can survive without regular watering or try enhancing your bathroom with fake ornamentals (it will be our little secret).
Replace light fixtures
Choosing new light fixtures can be the quickest way to establish a new theme in your bathroom.
If you’re looking to create a breezy holiday beachside vibe, you could give a modern hanging pendant light a go!
Thinking of going with a more rustic look? Vintage wall lights or antique hanging globes could be the best bathroom addition for you.
Vanities Matter!
It’s so easy to overlook the thing in your bathroom that stores all your shampoos, cleaning products and combs while focussing on walls, floors, and mirrors. But the vanity is arguably the most important feature in your bathroom, so remember to take this into serious consideration during your bathroom overhaul.
For something truly original, use your imagination. Approach it the eco-friendly way by transforming an old chest of drawers to create a new vanity, sand or repaint your existing vanity, or visit your local op shop for an ornate feature vanity that will give your bathroom a whole new look and feel.
Hoping for a more modern aesthetic? Experiment with bright colours to offset a more neutral bathroom, making your vanity the focal point of the room.
So, what do you think? What ideas do you have brewing for your bathroom refresh? My main advice is to think outside of the box. Remember you don’t need to break the bank to show your bathroom a little TLC, nor should you overthink it.
Do a little research before you embark on any of the larger tasks to make sure you have everything you need and remember to have fun while you’re at it!
Enjoy turning your bathroom into the relaxing room it ought to be folks.
